The initiative, led by National Payment Services of Vietnam (NAPAS) in partnership with Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, Hana Bank and GLN International, allows South Korean visitors to pay at hundreds of thousands of merchants across Vietnam by simply scanning VietQRGlobal codes via their existing banking or e-wallet apps.
Transactions are processed instantly and settled directly in South Korean won and Vietnamese dong, removing the need for cash exchange and simplifying everyday spending for tourists.
With South Korea already one of Vietnam’s largest inbound markets, the new system is expected to enhance travel convenience while supporting the wider shift towards cashless payments and deeper digital integration between the two countries.
The new payment system is expected to make travel more convenient for visitors on both sides. It also aligns with wider efforts by both governments to promote cashless economies and strengthen regional digital infrastructure.
