Arrive in Vietnam’s capital city, Ha Noi. Named after its location ‘between two rivers,’ the city is filled with colourful heritage. Transfer to your hotel, and after check-in, spend the rest of the day as you please. Go for a walk or take a cyclo tour through the famous Old Quarter, have egg coffee at Cafe Giang, and join the locals around Hoan Kiem lake at sunset. Have dinner near the lake at Madame Hien or Uu Dam Chay.
It’s time to set off on an adventure in Vietnam’s world-famous Ha Long Bay. This UNESCO heritage site is one of the most spectacular natural wonders the country has to offer. It takes two hours to reach the magnificent bay. Once on the boat, you can observe the beauty of the jungle-covered karsts and jade waters. Relax on the sundeck, try Vietnamese food on board, and go kayaking in the bay before returning to Ha Noi.
Today you’ll visit Hoa Lu, the ancient capital and seat of Vietnam’s first feudal dynasty in the 10th century. Stroll through the compound’s leaning archways, layered banyan trees, and rolling brick courtyards that survive from the old citadel. Afterwards take a paddleboat ride in Trang An Scenic Complex, also known as ‘Ha Long Bay on land.’ Cruise in a small boat past towering karsts, untouched nature and through cavernous grottos. Return to Ha Noi in the evening.
Go sightseeing under the guidance of a local guide to learn the story of Ha Noi. Be sure to visit Ha Noi’s Temple of Literature, a peaceful Confucian-inspired temple right in the centre of the city. Afterwards, you may like to shop for mementos to bring home at Tan My Design, Cathedral Craft House or Collective Memory. Have a Hanoian lunch of cha ca la vong or bun cha before you leave.
