The 2024 edition of the MICHELIN Guide Vietnam revealed 7 restaurants in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Danang awarded one MICHELIN star.

7 one MICHELIN Star (2 newcomers, and 1 promoted from MICHELIN Selected) are: Gia, Hibana by Koki, Tầm Vị, Ănăn Saigon, Akuna, La Maison 1888 and The Royal Pavilion. While Gia, Hibana by Koki, Tầm Vị, and Ănăn Saigon - retain their distinctions as the one MICHELIN Star restaurants from the previous selection, the 2024 one MICHELIN Star selection welcomes 2 newcomers and 1 promotion: Akuna [Ho Chi Minh City], La Maison 1888 [Da Nang], and The Royal Pavilion [Ho Chi Minh City].

The awarded restaurants encompasses a diverse range of 7 cuisine types: Vietnamese, French, Japanese, European Contemporary, Cantonese, Street food - A great recognition for the cities’ vibrant culinary scene, where good quality cuisine is available at affordable prices.

In Hanoi, the 3 one MICHELIN Star restaurants are:

Gia, a Vietnamese contemporary restaurant, with a menu that changes with the seasons and is inspired by Vietnamese culinary heritage. The beautifully crafted dishes showcase well-judged combinations of subtle flavours, with acidity and texture playing prominent roles, leaving a big impression to the diners.

Hibana by Koki, a theatrical experience at a 14-seat counter in the basement of Capella Hotel. Diners can fully enjoy skillfully and precisely cooked teppanyaki dishes rich in complex flavour by chef Hiroshi Yamaguchi. The menu features a distinctly decadent edge, epitomised by the premium ingredients flown in twice a week from Japan, such as abalone, spiny lobster, sea urchin, Yaeyama Kyori beef and Hokkaido hairy crab.

Tầm Vị, a northern Vietnamese style vintage tea house with its nostalgic collection of traditional furniture and hand-written signs. Diners are served northern Vietnamese dishes with some central and southern options. The Vietnamese ham with periwinkle Chả Ốc (snails) comes with fresh herbs, vegetables and rice vermicelli with fish sauce. The crab soup with Canh Cua Mồng Tơi (malabar spinach) has a subtle crab flavour in a clear broth.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the 3 one MICHELIN Star restaurants include:

Ănăn Saigon, a Vietnamese contemporary restaurant led by Chef Peter Cuong Franklin. With modern cooking techniques, enticing flavours of street food draw every diner’s attention. The fresh tuna tartare, a roasted duck-mozzarella-herb mini pizza, shrimp and pork tacos, or bone marrow wagyu beef Phở are cooked with well-balanced flavours and textures.

Akuna, meaning “flowing water” in the Australian Aboriginal language, an authentic reflection of Chef Sam Aisbett's culinary artistry. Chef's Counter offers a full view of our lively open kitchen, taking you directly into the heart of the action or nestled by the windows with serene views of the Saigon River. The menu is inspired by the “beautiful chaos” of Ho Chi Minh City and the richness of Vietnamese culture, creative European dishes with Vietnamese influences along with Aussie and international wine pairing available.

Royal Pavilion, located in one of the luxury hotels, Royal Pavilion is decorated with jade stonework, traditional gold-leaf painted Chinese scenes and ornate seating. Serving a wide range of à la carte and set menus that respect Canton’s culinary heritage. The dim sum menu is only served at lunchtime.

Da Nang, the newcomer of MICHELIN Guide Vietnam, adds one restaurant in the one MICHELIN Star list.
