Vesak Day

Vesak, known as Phật Đản in Vietnamese, marks Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and death. On this day, Buddhists throughout Vietnam give alms, volunteer, and decorate temples or otherwise recreate scenes from the Buddha’s life. Vegetarian meals, simple parades and lantern ceremonies by the river are also popular.
For the visitor, Phật Đản is a great time to observe and experience Vietnamese religious culture.

 

This festival commemorates Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and death. The holiday is also known as Phật Đản in Vietnamese. 

Vesak, also known as Buddha Jayanti,Buddha Purnima and Buddha Day, is a holiday traditionally observed by Buddhists in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Celebrating Vesak also means making special efforts to bring happiness to the unfortunate like the aged, the handicapped, and the sick. To this day, Buddhists will distribute gifts in the form of cash, or volunteering in various charitable homes throughout the country. Vesak is also a time for great joy and happiness, expressed not by pandering to one's appetites, but by concentrating on useful activities such as decorating and illuminating temples, or painting and creating exquisite scenes from the life of the Buddha for public dissemination.

 

Vesak Day, or Buddha's Birthday (Phật Đản in Vietnamese) is a religious festival held on April 15 every year according to the lunar calendar. This is one of the three major festivals of the year of Buddhism in South Asia and Southeast Asia to celebrate the birth of Buddha. 

Traditionally, Buddha's birthday in Vietnam is solemnly and respectfully organized by Buddhism. On holidays, Buddhists’ activities often include practicing vegetarianism, almsgiving, and charity work, giving gifts and money to weak people in the community. In addition to holding the main ceremony, Buddhism also organizes parades, ceremonies, releases lanterns on the river, organizes lectures on Buddhism, interspersed with cultural performances, and organizes a ceremony...
